Man and his horse, in front of the shanty town in the neighborhood Chacarita, Buenos Aires, April 2017.
The first settlers established in this rail yard in 2001, and in 2013, the shanty town had 5000 inhabitants, according to Clarin.
In total it is estimated that at least 10 percent of the population of the city of Buenos Aires, around 275 000 people, live without access to two or more basic services including running water, electricity, sewage works and natural gas,” as stated in the Herald. But, “the true figure could be closer to 400 000 people, much higher than official estimates," Jonathan Baldiviezo, a lawyer at the Observatory for Rights in the City, told the same newspaper.
