What about having a glamorous cocktail in your hand while watching the sunset explode in red and orange and yellow over the city of Buenos Aires? Well, this doesn’t get more exciting than taking the elevator in the, let’s say fancy 5-star hotel “Alvear Icon”, up to the 32nd floor. Opening at 6 o’clock, you will find high-prized, but nevertheless tasteful cocktails, perfectly worth the money if you are one of those viewpoint-seeking persons. Crystal Bar is to be find in the polished neighborhood of Puerto Madero, where you will have a view from 128 meters above ground level to important buildings like the Centro Cultural Kirchner, la Casa Rosada and the building of the Ministerio de Defensa, as well as the bridge “Punte de la Mujer”. Looking to the buildings east side, you can calm your eyes down in the muddy-colored river “Río de la Plata”, the world’s widest river.

The glazed terrace part have free seating, while the indoor tables in the salon requires you to consume for a minimum amount of pesos per person (around 25 US dollars).

While there, it is handy to know that the Alvear hotels in Buenos Aires, there are three of them, started with their first hotel in Avenida Alvear in Recoleta. It was built by an Argentine businessman, Dr. Rafael de Miero, who had been in Paris and wanted to bring the elegance back home decorating the suites in Luis XV and Empire style. The hotel opened in 1932, and later it was bought by the cousin of the Spanish King Juan Carlos I, before it got in the hands of the Argentine entrepreneur David Sutton Dabbah in “Grupo Alvear”, who also is the president and CEO of the extravagant shopping center “Galerías Pacífico” and Argentina’s most iconic hotel in Bariloche, LLao LLao Hotel & Resort. Two more hotels were added to the group’s repertoire, which started out in the perfume industry. The founder was David’s father Saúl Sutton, who’s father came to Buenos Aires from Syria in the 20s.The Crystal bar was inaugurated in 2017. To accompany the cocktail’s, the restaurant sells some tapas and gourmet sandwiches, but to avoid spending all your whole food budget in one night, it is better to stick to the cocktails and find a more grounded restaurant in the neighborhood San Telmo afterwards.

Address: Aimé Painé 1130, Buenos Aires
